In a cooperative effort, the Government of Alberta, Sustainable Resource Development, and the Alberta Forest Products Association undertake an analysis of the economic impact of the Alberta forest industry on a bi-yearly basis. The most recent ecominc impact report was published in June 2008. Charts and graphs that identify the economic impact by region are available here.
AFPA on Grizzly Bear
In the spring of 2007, new data on grizzly bear populations showed there were fewer grizzly bears in Alberta than previously thought. This data was a result of work using DNA evidence through the Foothills Model Forest Grizzly Bear Research Program. The AFPA is a major supporter of the Foothills Model Forest and its research programs. The smaller than expected grizzly bear population reaffirms the recommendation of the Alberta Grizzly Bear Recovery Team to list Grizzly Bear as Threatened.
