AFPA Health & Safety Training

A key component of introducing and maintaining health and safety processes on any work site is the ongoing training of management and workers. This makes the provision of quality health and safety training opportunities an important part of the Alberta Forest Products Association’s commitment to their members and member contractors.

The AFPA offers a variety of training options using delivery methods which range from traditional classroom training, to training offered online and via CD-ROM.

2010 AFPA Health & Safety Training Schedule

Leadership in Health and Safety (LH&S) Training – Three-day classroom session
LH&S Training is available in a classroom setting as a three-day session. This course is held throughout the year at different locations around Alberta, and can be booked by AFPA members on request.

LH&S Training is required by small employers (10 or fewer employees) and prospective auditors, and is designed to provide an overall picture of what is required to create and maintain an effective health and safety process. Employees from all levels of an organization will benefit from the information provided in this session.

Leadership in Health and Safety (LH&S) Training – on CD ROM
As an alternative to the LH&S Training in a classroom setting, the AFPA has developed an interactive version of this valuable training on CD-ROM.

The CD is priced according to employer size, not the number of users, and is designed to be user friendly for learners at all levels. A short PowerPoint demo is available for download, or contact us for more information on the software.

Auditor Training - Two-day classroom session
A required course for all prospective auditors and any small employers planning on doing an internal audit, this two-day session includes training in auditing techniques and principles, report writing, and information on the legislation relevant to industry work sites.

Online Training
Online training is available free of charge to member companies and their contractors. Sessions currently available online include:

  • Incident Investigation
  • Hazard Assessment
  • Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Legislation
  • Corrective Action Report (CAR) Training
  • Pre-Job Process (PJP) Training
  • Tending Worker Training (TWT)

These sessions are also available (on request) in a classroom format to member companies. Contact Joyce Shipka for more info.

Pulp & Paper Mill Safety Orientations – Online Training
All pulp mill contractors in Alberta are required to complete P&PSO training before they will be admitted to the pulp mill site. Thanks to the joint efforts of the AFPA and its member pulp mills, this training, as well as orientations specific to each mill, will soon be available online.
